Y&R made history at the 2016 D&AD Awards ceremony in London last night, with Y&R New Zealand becoming D&AD’s Most Awarded Advertising Agency, a first in New Zealand.
The agency walked away with a total 11 Pencils across a range of categories including the coveted Black & Gold Pencil for Most Awarded Advertising Agency and a staggering eight Pencils, six of them Yellow, for its audacious “McWhopper” campaign. The agency also picked up Pencils for its “Actual Reality” campaign for Jaguar NZ and for Brake Road Safety’s “Living Memories.”
The global success of “McWhopper” also recognized Burger King Corporation as the 2016 D&AD Most Awarded Client.
“Winning so many Pencils for “McWhopper” is a truly special honor, and it would not have been possible without our client, Fernando Machado, Burger King’s SVP of Global Brand Management. His passion for our idea and his unflagging support helped make this idea come to life. I am, of course, so proud of Josh Moore and his team in New Zealand. It has been wonderful to see an idea resonate so strongly in every part of the globe,” said Tony Granger, Global Chief Creative Officer of Y&R.
Y&R’s Australian agency GPY&R Brisbane also won five Pencils for the “Melanoma Likes Me” campaign and one for “Crack Backs Cards.” The remaining agency network also picked up eight additional Pencils making it a total 25 Pencils for Y&R.
Granger added: “And, with six more Pencils awarded to GPY&R Brisbane, there is clearly something special going on in the Australia/New Zealand region. Congratulations to Ben Coulson and his team, and to our other winners within the Y&R network.”
This recognition follows Y&R New Zealand’s recent GRANDY win for “McWhopper” and GPY&R Brisbane’s Outstanding Public Service award win for “Melanoma Likes Me” at this year’s ANDY awards in April.
